Lyle, on Monday representatives of Fairmont Corp, CCBG Architects, Phoenix Job Corps and Stadium Lofts met with Tom Godbee of Streets and Transportation Department regarding the City’s plans to install additional parking meters within the Warehouse District. Our position was to oppose additional meters for the reasons the City wants to install them. We do not see a need for meters because there is not an over demand for on street parking and a need to turn over parking spaces during the day. The only time there is a demand for parking is during events. It is my contention that additional 2 hour parking meters will only result in more parking citations or the creation of no parking areas when people avoid the meters. The City’s position is that is why they want to add more parking meters so that there are no free parking spots on any of the streets. They also stated that they are concerned with individuals selling parking spaces during events on public right-aways. Usually this is on the ends of buildings between the building and the roadway.
Mr. Godbee advised that he would get back with us.
